Dear SWITCH edu-ID announce subscribers,
a lot of things happened since our last newsletter.
Some of them are documented in our blog
https://identityblog.switch.ch.
Trust & Identity WG Meeting and SWITCH edu-ID Update Event, 20.5.2020:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Please consider to participate in our next event - this time as online
session - to get the latest news and background information, as well as
to discuss questions and issues with us.
Registration is mandatory and open until May 8:

Additional call for funding in project Swiss edu-ID end of May:
-------------------------------------------------------
The Swiss edu-ID project running since 2014 offers funding opportunities
for edu-ID adoption efforts of Swiss universities. The originally
planned last opportunity to join the project ended in March. Due to the
COVID-19 outbreak, SWITCH decided to add another opportunity to join the
project.
Please contact eduid(a)switch.ch before end of May 2020, if you want to
make sure that you get your edu-ID adoption efforts funded.
Some more universities have adopted SWITCH edu-ID:
------------------------------------------------
- UNISG on July 17 2019
- ZHAW on October 18 2019
- ZHdK on January 8 2020
- UNIFR on January 28 2020
(see articles on
https://identityblog.switch.ch/)
Maximum of two adoptions per month:
------------------------------------
Most of the universities are currently planning the adoption of SWITCH
edu-ID (compare
https://www.switch.ch/edu-id/about/participants/) but it
has been shown that for some organisations this takes more time. Many
adoptions are planned for 2020 and 2021. A maximum of two adoptions per
month can be performed.
Therefore it is recommended to arrange a time slot with SWITCH as early
as possible.
SLSP will use SWITCH edu-ID from Dec. 2020 on:
--------------------------------------------
The Swiss Library Service Platform users will authenticate with SWITCH
edu-ID accounts from December 2020 on. This means that library users
from most universities will use a SWITCH edu-ID account to access
library catalogues:

eduroam.ch pilot phase:
----------------------
SWITCH wants to offer a Swiss-wide solution for WiFI access on campuses
with authentication via SWITCH edu-ID with the potential to replace
local RADIUS server.
Currently the demand is being clarified with the universities and SWITCH
will soon contact the IT managers about this again:
https://identityblog.switch.ch/2019/12/01/eduroam-goes-edu-id/
SPNEGO-Kerberos login with SWITCH edu-ID:
-----------------------------------------
Some universities would like to extend the desktop login to neighbouring
systems. A successful demo of a cross-realm authentication with SWITCH
edu-ID in a Windows environment took place in January 2020 at FHNW.
Please contact eduid(a)switch.ch if you consider to offer SSO-experience
to your domain-joined clients with SPNEGO.
Open ID Connect (OIDC):
-----------------------
In August 2019 the Shibboleth OIDC module was successfully added to a
test IdP at SWITCH, and it was configured such that an OIDC Relying
Party (RP) could use it for authentication. The provisioning of this as
a productive part of the SWITCH edu-ID service will take a while since
other important work packages are tackled with higher priority, like,
e.g. the task to increase the availability and elasticity of the SWITCH
edu-ID service even more.
Please contact eduid(a)switch.ch if you would like to test service
connections with OIDC.
Read only mode for technical accounts:
------------------------------------
Administrators can now set technical accounts as read-only to prevent
password reset and other activities on account level and therefore keep
full control of such read-only accounts. Although SWITCH doesn’
recommend this, it can be useful when technical accounts are intended
for temporary use by other people.
End user help in 4 languages:

The FAQs are now available in English, German, French and Italian to
better support end users:
